Two men were injured on Monday after a shooting near the National Zoo in northwest Washington D.C., local police reported.
According to first reports published by Reuters, the shooting took place at around 17:00 hours, after an annual Easter event where thousands were present.
One of the injured men was shot in the left hand and a second person was shot in the left arm, but none of these injuries put their lives at risk, assured the commander of the local police, Michael Reese, reported The Washington Post.
Both persons were found around 3000 Connecticut Avenue, located in front of the Washington National Zoo, and so far the causes for the shooting are unknown, and there are no suspects, authorities reported, who are investigating security footage and reports of a group of about 30 or 50 people travelling south on Connecticut avenue when the shots were heard.
"We're very worried about yesterday's incidents on Connecticut Avenue. People of all ages visit the zoo to watch the animals and enjoy the celebrations. Our priority number one is safety. We're going to do everything possible to guarantee the safety of our visitors," said Annalise Meyer, spokesperson for the National Zoo, reported NBC.
The National Zoo was the host of an Easter event which took place on Monday, April 21 with family activities and live entertainment which lasted for the entire day, celebration which 16,000 people enjoyed, reported The Washington Post.
