The last installment of "The Hobbit" might just be re-titled, reports TheOneRing.net. "Ringer Spy The Knocking Thrush, who is a reliable source, dropped us a line to let us know that New Line have registered a new title: 'The Hobbit: Into the Fire,'" says the outlet.

Although a "reliable source" has dished the possible movie re-titling, no reason was provided - leaving fans intrigued at New Line Cinema's seemingly late move.

TheOneRing.net speculates that "The Hobbit: Into the Fire" may be a "just in case" title, as was the case with "The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies," which was reportedly registered at the same time as "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug."

The J. R. R. Tolkien fan site also notes that the alleged newly registered "The Hobbit" title may just be part of compliance - reasoning, "because they must register their eventual title, studios often register multiple titles."

Lastly, "The Hobbit: Into the Fire" may also hail from Chapter 6 of "The Hobbit," titled "Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire," where Bilbo and the Dwarves successfully fled the caves but were later hunted down by Wargs.

CinemaBlend has conducted a poll asking fans if they prefer "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" or the rumored second title, "The Hobbit: Into the Fire." Results of the poll show that fans of the novel still prefer "There and Back Again," with over 80% in vote rate.

This isn't the first time that "The Hobbit" series has been subjected to re-titling. Cinema Blend recalls that the second film was once set to be titled "The Hobbit: There and Back Again," only to be split into two. The first part, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" hit theaters late last year while the second part is allegedly due out late this year. The only question would be, will the final movie still be titled "The Hobbit: There and Back Again?"
