Singer Brandy and fiance Ryan Press have broken up and called off their engagement after deciding to get hitched back in December of 2012. A representative of the pop singer has confirmed to US Weekly that the pair are "no longer together."
The LA Times quotes the singer's rep saying, "They decided to take a step back and reevaluate the relationship. Brandy is 35 now -- that's what her whole #35 on Twitter is about, becoming her own woman."
Confirming that the decision was mutual and that the pair has remained as close friends, the rep says that Brandy and Ryan "haven't ended things on a bad note and they still speak all the time."
Trouble in paradise began in February when Brandy made an appearance at the 45th NAACP Awards ceremony without her engagement ring, says the LA Times. The same ring wasn't seen during her birthday and most recently, on the VH1 "Morning Buzz Live" interview with Nick Lachey, notes the outlet.
When asked about her upcoming album during the interview, Brandy confessed that she was going through a transition in her life. "It's going to be a very personal album for me," said the singer. "This album is just special for the whole therapy thing. I sing about my life and a lot of the things that I've been going through lately."
It can be recalled how Brandy gushed about her engagement back in late 2012, as reported by Perez Hilton. Brandy, who admits she's not one for the flashy diamond, loves what her then-beau Press got for her. "It just represents how he feels about me, and I'm really blessed to have someone like him in my life. He's truly a gift," she said.
The 35-year-old songbird has a 12-year-old daughter named Sy'rai, from a previous relationship with music producer Robert Smith. The engagement would have served as a ticket for the singer's first walk down the aisle if it wasn't called off.
