Hollywood has seen its fair share of scandalous families and from the looks of the first trailer of the upcoming film "Maps to the Stars," it seems that director David Cronenberg has taken the intensity of the Hollywood lifestyle to the next level. Cronenberg has been dubbed as Hollywood's mad scientist, most well-known for his originality and ability to capture humanity's internal conflicts.

"Maps to the Stars" is reportedly one of the most awaited releases this year, according to Film Stage and is said to be a depiction of Hollywood and western culture. Film Stage describes the upcoming film as "one surefire example and, no less, one of our most-anticipated 2014 titles."

According to Collider, the synopsis for the film is as follows:

"The Weiss family is the archetypical Hollywood dynasty: father Sanford is an analyst and coach, who has made a fortune with his self-help manuals; mother Christina mostly looks after the career of their son Benjie, 13, a child star.

One of Sanford's clients, Havana, is an actress who dreams of shooting a remake of the movie that made her mother, Clarice, a star in the '60s. Clarice is dead now and visions of her come to haunt Havana at night. Adding to the toxic mix, Benjie has just come off a rehab program he joined when he was 9 and his sister, Agatha, has recently been released from a sanatorium where she was treated for criminal pyromania."

The film stars Robert Pattinson, Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska, John Cusack, Olivia Williams, Evan Bird, and Sarah Gadon. "Maps to the Stars" is the second partnership between Cronenberg and Pattinson, with their first collaboration being the 2012 drama-thriller "Cosmopolis."

While the film has released its promo trailer, "Maps to the Stars" has yet to set a release date for the United States. Indiewire is rooting for the film to be part of the Cannes Film Festival this year in May.
