A customer got more than what she bargained for after complaining to an airline about a flight delay.
A U.S. Airways customer under the Twitter name handle @ElleRafter was tweeting about her complaint about the delay of her flight from North Carolina to Oregon and addressing her complaint to the airline, Buzzfeed said. The exchange seemed professional up until the airline responded with a very graphic image of a woman and a model airplane. The image was clearly not safe for work (NSFW), and because it came from the airline's official Twitter handle, users began to comment about the airline's online etiquette.
Buzzfeed said that the disturbing photo attached to the controversial tweet was originally from a German-language amateur porn and shock site. The tweet was later taken down after an hour.
The Guardian said that U.S. Airways later issued an apology over the disturbing tweet in another Twitter post, which read, "Unfortunately the image was inadvertently included in a response to a customer. We immediately realised the error and removed our tweet. We deeply regret the mistake and we are currently reviewing our processes to prevent such errors in the future."
The airline also claimed that it has tried to flag the graphic image after it was tweeted to its account by another user, of which Buzzfeed verified as user @ARTxDEALER.
The Guardian said that the controversial tweet just came hours after an arrest was made on a 14-year-old Dutch girl who goes by the name Sarah for tweeting a terror threat to American Airlines. After American Airlines threatened Sarah that they will pass her information to federal authorities, the latter backtracked and claimed that her friend did the joke and not her.
"I was joking and it was my friend not me, take her IP address not mine. I'm so scared I'm just a 14-year-old white girl I'm not a terrorist," Sarah tweeted.
On Monday, Sarah was detained by police in Rotterdam, the UK newspaper said.
