At least three people were injured on Wednesday when a helicopter crashed as it tried to take off from the roof of the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, authorities reported.
The helicopter's pilot and two crew members, a man and a woman, received medical attention for minor injuries, but their health is reported as stable, reported The Washington Post.
According to the same source, the incident happened at around 17:45, local time, after the helicopter dropped off a patient at the hospital; when the pilot attempted to take off, he lost control of the helicopter and crashed on the roof of the hospital.
Although the causes for the accident are still under investigation, the company that owns the helicopter, PHI Air Medical, emitted a press release on Wednesday in which they said that it crashed after experiencing "an unforeseen problem during take-off which caused it to veer off the landing pad and crash into the hospital's roof," according to NBC.
Billy Sparks, spokesman for the hospital, confirmed to Reuters that a nurse and a paramedic were on the AS350 when it crashed. Both received aid and are out of danger.
Shortly after the incident, various images and videos of the crashed helicopter were shared through the media and social networks.
Authorities of the University of New Mexico Hospital, the only top-tier traumatology center in the state, reported that the heliport and various zones under it were evacuated as a precaution and it is unknown how long it will be before they're in service again.
The Federal Aviation Administration already started an investigation to determine the causes of the accident.
