The hit animation movie "Frozen" might just have a sequel, if rumors prove to be true.
"Frozen" allegedly has the potential, says Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger. "This has real franchise potential. We expect to see not just new product but continued interest in this and continued impact on the bottom line for quite awhile. Its success speaks volumes on the future of animation at our company," he said in a Variety report.
True enough, the Disney film is not lacking in terms of potential. The movie has grossed $913 million from worldwide box office sales while the "Frozen" soundtrack has been on the Billboard Top 200 for 10 weeks, with over 863,000 copies sold, notes Huffington Post. Despite the success, Disney reportedly has no official comment regarding the status of the alleged "Frozen" sequel, reports CinemaBlend.
The movie directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, producer Peter Del Vecho, and song writers Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez held an AMA on Reddit February, gathering an impressive 2600+ comments. One Reddit user asked regarding a sequel, to which the movie prod team replied, "Anythings [sic] possible, who knows what's next. We love these characters."
In an interview with PopSugar, Buck and Lee also said, "I think the characters are very rich, [and] I think there are other stories left to tell."
"Let It Go" songwriters even joked about the alleged sequel at the Oscars upon receiving the Best Song award, saying "Happy Oscars to you. Let's do Frozen 2!" The two also joked about the alleged sequel's title during the AMA, suggesting "Microwaved" and "ReFrozen" as possible titles.
Iger has earlier said that "Frozen" will be seen in more places than it is seen today, such as a Broadway adaptation, theme park-integration, and even videogames as noted by Variety. "There's a lot of active development," said the CEO. But will "Frozen 2" be part of the said developments?
