Two-year-old twins lost their lives on Tuesday night when they accidentally fell into a pool in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

The girls were found floating in the pool of an apartment building, in what authorities suspect is a terrible accident.

According to first reports from The Sun Sentinel, two witnesses took the girls out of the pool at Tivoli Park, located on block 700 of Siesta Key, and immediately attempted to resuscitate the girls with CPR.

A man and a woman staying in the building were walking to the pool shortly after 6 p.m. when they noticed a girl floating in the pool.

The man immediately jumped into the pool, grabbed the minor and tried to apply CPR, moments later, the woman saw another girl floating in the water and also dragged her out.

Mikke Jachles, spokesman for the Broward Police Department told the media that paramedics arrived at the place at 6:25 p.m. and despite intense efforts to make the girls react, they didn't and were transported in critical state to the Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, according to the Miami Herald.

Although police continue to investigate to determine the details of the incident, Keyla Concepción, of the Broward Police, told the Sun Sentinel that the girls had left their apartment due to a parents slip up, and managed to reach the pool, the door of which was broken.

The parents of the minors did not answer any calls from the press, however, John Johnson, uncle of the girls, told the NBC that the family is devastated by the tragedy.

The man said that the girls, identified as Harmony and Harmani West had been impatient to swim in the pool shortly before the accident.

"They kept saying 'water, water, water', you know, they wanted to go swimming; they've been at the beach for the last two weeks. They were smart, very smart, reached the door, opened and walked down the stairs," said Johnson.
