You have to hand it to "Star Wars" Producers: They started filming without casting every role in the movie.
Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn revealed, "We have a lot of them [in place]," he said about the main actors, whose names have not been disclosed. "We're just not completely done yet." However, an actor that can be counted on the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter, would be Peter Mayhew, although he will be hidden behind a lot of fur.
Yes, the original Chewbacca is reprising his role in "Episode VII", making him the first original cast member to join JJ Abrams' continuation of the series.
Speculations began when Mayhew skipped the Comicpalooza convention in Texas, saying that he is away "due to filming."
Chewbacca's return in the story is one of the elements that lines up the new film to the trilogy, the other is R2-D2. Although presumed that some cast members, including Harrison Ford, Mark Hamil, and Carrie Fisher, will reprise their roles, Disney and Lucasfilm are yet to confirm the appearance Han, Luke, and Leia.
As posted by Indiewire, the rumored cast members are John Boyega, Ed Speelers, Matthew James Thomas, Ray Fisher, Jesse Plemons, and Lupita Nyong'o.
On the other hand, sources confirmed in another article of The Hollywood Reporter that "Girls" star Adam Driver is going to star as an undisclosed villain.
Disney CEO Bob Iger shared some details about the upcoming movie, saying that the film will be set 30 years after "Return of the Jedi."
During Disney's annual shareholders' meeting, he also said that "There will be some very familiar faces along with a trio of new young leads."
That does not mean that there won't be any appearances by the former trio, though.
Star Wars Episode VII will find its way to the silver screens on December 18, 2015.
