On April 8 a number of DVD and Blu-Rays will be released.
"The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug" : After a disappointing box office, the sequel to "The Hobbit" trilogy will be released in three sets. The film continues the journey of Bilbo Baggins, the dwarves, and Gandalf the Grey, as they continue their quest to reclaim Erebor from Smaug. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards and with good reviews, the movie is bound to increase its audience base and help the third film garner a healthier box office.
"August: Osage County" : Pundits once saw the film as a Best Picture contender for the Oscars. However when the film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, the movie scored mixed reviews. Harvey Weinstein however was able to get the stars of the film Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts Oscar nomination. The film based on the Tracy Letts tells the story of a family of strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose paths have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Oklahoma house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them. The movie also boasts an outstanding casts that includes Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Sam Shepard, Margo Martindale, Dermot Mulroney, Julianne Nicholson, Juliette Lewis, Benedict Cumberbatch and Abigail Breslin.
"Grudge Match" : Attempting to appeal to older audiences Warner Bros released "Grudge Match" to terrible results both critically and at the box office. The film starring Robert De Niro and Sylveter Stallone tells the story of a pair of aging boxing rivals who are coaxed out of retirement to fight one one last time 30 years after their last match. The film could eventually garner a following on home video especially since it also stars Kim Basingr, Alan Arkin, and Kevin Hart but it is more likely to be seen get reruns on TV.
"Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" : The found footage horror franchise attempted to give a new twist to the series trying to aim at Latino audiences. The film ultimately failed critically and at the box office as it only made $32 million and became the lowest grossing in the series. The film tells the story of Jesse who begins experiencing a number of disturbing and unexplainable things after the death of his neighbor.
"Justin Bieber' Believe" : While the Bieber documentary was only made for only $5 million, the film demonstrated that the singer's fanbase was slowly decreasing as it flopped. The new movie follows the backstage and on-stage performances of Bieber during his rise to super stardom. Having caused a number of controversy in the media, this may attract non Bieber fans who are curious to know more about the singer as well as those established fans.
"Bastards" : The controversial Claire Denis film will be released on DVD. The film films tells the story of Marco who returns to Paris after his brother-in-law's suicide, where he targets the man his sister believes caused the tragedy - though he is ill-prepared for her secrets as they quickly muddy the waters. The film was a controversial festival film which premiered at Cannes and New York.
