Is F1 icon Michael Schumacher ever going to wake up?
According to the latest reports, it appears he may be able to do just that.
After spending nearly 100 days in an artificially-induced coma at University of Grenoble's hospital, it looks like things are getting better for the Formula One champion, according to Independent.ie.
"Michael is making progress. He shows moments of consciousness and awakening," announced Sabine Kehm, Schumacher's manager. "We are on his side during his long and difficult fight, together with the team at the hospital in Grenoble, and we remain confident."
Kehm's statements since the seven-time F1 champ sustained severe head injuries late in December have remained tinged with hope and confidence, hence the recurring reiteration about remaining confident about his recovery.
Aside from this, Kehm has also maintained that they cannot give any further information regarding the 45-year-old former racing driver's condition, emphasizing the need to protect his family's privacy, which Schumacher himself has staunchly upheld in the past.
"We would like to thank you all for the continuous sympathies. At the same time we again ask for your understanding that we do not intend to disclose details," Kehm said. "This is necessary to protect the privacy of Michael and his family, and to enable the medical team to work in full calmness."
"Schumacher's wife, Corinna, often accompanied by the couple's two teenage children, has been making daily trips to the hospital from their mansion at the Swiss village of Gland on the shore of Lake Geneva," The New York Times reported. "She has denied reports in European newspapers that she has been planning to spend part of Schumacher's fortune from his racing days - commonly estimated at about $750 million - to build a clinic on the property at Gland and transfer her husband there."
Will Schumacher finally emerge victorious in this particular battle? We continue to wait and hope for the best.
