Three new stars have joined the upcoming "Batman and Superman" film.
With production currently underway in Michigan, the film has been casting for a number of months. So, who are the new castmembers?
The first of the stars is Academy Award-winning actress Holly Hunter. The choice of Hunter is one of the most interesting casting decisions; Hunter has never done a franchise film. The actress is known for her work in independent films, particularly "Thirteen," "Raising Arizona" and "The Piano." She has also been seen in "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and "Won't Back Down." The actress has also voiced animated work including Pixar's "The Incredibles." The actress is also known for her TV work in "Top of the Lake," "Saving Grace" and "the American Experience." Hunter is slated to next be seen in "Manglehorn" with Al Pacino, Harmony Korine, and Chris Messina, and an untitled Terrence Malick film with Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Ryan Gosling, Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender and Rooney Mara.
The second new member of the cast is Callan Mulvey, an actor recognized for action films and franchises. The New Zealander was most recently seen in "300: Rise of an Empire" as well as "Zero Dark Thirty." He was also seen in "The Hunter" and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." Mulvey has also appeared in the TV series' "Rush" and "Bikies Wars: Brothers in Arms." He is also slated to be seen in "Hone" with Genesis Rodriguez.
The last new member of the cast is newcomer Tao Okamoto of "The Wolverine." The actress has only been seen in one feature and is slated to be seen in the TV mini-series "Chi no Wadachi."
According to Variety, the three new cast members will be new creating characters specifically for the film.
The rest of the cast includes Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman. Jesse Eisenberg is slated to play Lex Luther, Jeremy Irons will portray Alfred the butler, and Amy Adams will reprise her role as Lois Lane.
Laurence Fishburne will also return as Perry White and Diane Lane will play Martha White. Additionally, Gal Gadot will play Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.
The film will directed by Zack Snyder, who is best known for his work on "300," "Watchmen" and "Man of Steel."
The screenplay will be written by David S. Goyer, from a story co-created by Goyer and Snyder. However, details on the story of script have been sparse. Rumor has it that this upcoming film will unite the movies with the planned "Justice League" film Warner Bros. is planning. However, nothing is confirmed; the "Justice League" movie has yet to be greenlit.
"Batman vs. Superman" will be produced by Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder, both of whom produced "Man of Steel," while Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan and Wesley Coller will serve as executive producers.
After a number of delays, Warner Bros. will release the film on May 6, 2016.
