With little over two months of work before the "4th of July" recess, the US House of Representatives, dominated by Republicans, provided a harsh counter against Democrats by rejecting an amendment which pretended to bring back the debate on immigration reform on Wednesday.
This is the second time the House of Representatives stops the long-awaited immigration reform,a measure that could open a way to legalize the status of 11 million immigrants in the country- since they blocked Project S744, proposed by the Senate last June.
According to The Huffington Post, the Budget Committee rejected the proposal with 21 Republican votes against and 15 Democrat votes in favor, in a vote which seemed very difficult for the Democrats owing to Republican rejection of the project.
The measure, promoted by California Congressman Tony Cárdenas, pretended to reduce deficit by $900 billion dollars, and would create 120,000 jobs a year, according to Think Progress.
Cárdenas' project, HR15, however, is based on S744, a measure which was rejected by the House of Representatives last June. Unlike S744, the new amendment included a measure promoted by Republicans which provides $30 billion more for security and hiring 21,000 new Border Patrol agents and buying more portions of the wall on the border, according to the quoted source.
This is the main reservation of Republicans, who said that they oppose the immigration reform project proposed by the Senate.
"Here's our problem with this amendment: we don't support the Senate's law project," said the President of the Budget Committee, Republican Paul Ryan, quoted by The Huffington Post.
