With the 9-year long series finally coming to an end, will the cast of HIMYM guest on the alleged spin-off series?
The rumored spin-off series, "How I Met Your Dad," will allegedly be telling the tale of a woman when she was in her 20's. It is not yet clear if the spin-off will be of very similar make to the CBS hit show but the plot, according to Screen Rant, "will center on the mother hinted at in the central premise of the previous series. Of course, the new show will take place in the same "universe" as 'How I Met Your Mother.'"
The alleged upcoming series will reportedly welcome a fresh new set of characters played by an all new cast, says Screen Rant. TV Line reports that according to "casting intel," a character named Sally will be the new Ted.
"She's vibrant, messy and unpredictable - a 'female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she's going in life.' She's thinking of calling it quits with her husband of a year, Gavin. She'll lean on her circle of friends for advice and support through the inevitable divorce," says TV Line.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Sally will allegedly be played by indie actress and filmmaker Greta Gerwig, who will also reportedly get producer credits for the spin-off series. The outlet notes that "How I Met Your Dad" is from writer-executive producers Emily Spivey, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.
As for "How I Met Your Mother" cast possibly appearing on the spin-off series, Alyson Hannigan spills that she is pretty much open to the idea.
"Sure," she told PopSugar in an interview. "Although I really know very little. I think that it's just going to be a completely different group and totally different. I don't know. I found out [about the spinoff] just by reading on the internet. I don't think it's a traditional spinoff where one character is leading it."
The creators of "How I Met Your Dad" have not yet confirmed a premiere date for the spin-off series but Screen Rant says that the show will most likely kick off late this year.
