Metal Gear fans have been waiting a long time for their next full installment in the series. While it won't be a continuation of the series' stealthy nature, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will continue the Metal Gear story and be available on February 19, 2013 on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was first announced back in 2009 at the E3 expo under the title "Metal Gear Solid: Rising." After struggling to make significant headway in the development process, Kojima Productions formally announced that Platinum Games would take over development in December 2011.

Kojima Productions will still be producing the game be responsible for plot and character designs, but Platinum Games will be taking care of everything else. The setting of the game was even changed to give Platinum Games more creative freedom.

Back in 2011, Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear creator, tweeted:

"We've only said that the period setting is several years after MGS4. Metal Gear Rising is not part of the Metal Gear Solid series. At present, we can't say more than this."

It will feature the return of Raiden, from Metal Gear Solid 4, as the game's main protagonist.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will also do away with the traditional gameplay that Metal Gear Solid fans have been used to. The game will be more action-oriented, with a heavy focus on sword fighting with Raiden's katana.

Almost everything in the game world can be cut, and a "Blade Mode" is now the standard aiming view. It will allow players to enter bullet time and slice their way through enemies and objects alike.

Reception to the combat system has been good, and in classic Metal Gear style, players will still be able to go through the entire game without killing anyone.

As one of the most anticipated games of the near future, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance looks like it might do a good job of giving a beloved franchise a facelift.
