In a tragic turn of events, rock superstar Mick Jagger's long time love took matters in her own hands and committed suicide, allegedly due to financial woes and a failing business.
Many celebrities have let their thoughts and grief over designer L'Wren Scott's death known and have commented on her professionalism and talent. What a waste, indeed!
On that note, some may not be familiar with the famous Rolling Stone member's ladylove. Here are top 5 facts about L'Wren that can help you understand the outpouring of sympathy and entertainment headline space regarding her demise.
She Did Her Own Clothes
The statuesque 49-year-old designer's height hit the 6 feet mark when she turned 12, which necessitated special solutions when it comes to her wardrobe.
"I had to learn to sew when I was growing up because nothing else fitted me," she told The Telegraph in an interview back in 2011. "I remember finding a black silk 1950s dress, taking it home and unpicking the waistband and the seams, then sewing it together again, so that it would fit me."
This foundation in sewing would turn out to be handy for her years later as she pursued a career in fashion design.
She Does Clothes for Celebrities Too
She has dressed Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, and Ellen Barkin, the Daily Mail noted. First Lady Michelle Obama is said to be a fan of hers.
"I think L'Wren has an extraordinary ability to make dresses that genuinely flatter a woman. She makes an unbelievably contemporary dress in a remarkably old-fashioned way for all sorts of women and body types," SJP once said of her, according to the British publication.
L'Wren Scott Is Not Her Real Name
"L'Wren Scott grew up as plain Luann Bambrough in the one-horse town of Roy, Utah, where she was raised by her devout Mormon parents Lula and Ivan," the Daily Mail pointed out. She later changed her name to a more "exotic" one when she started modeling at 17.
She Modeled before She Got Into Designing
Her 6 foot 3 inch height and epic 42-inch legs got her a lot of attention and jobs. In fact, one of her more famous gigs was the Pretty Polly tights ad campaign, shot by David Bailey. However, she wasn't comfortable living out her life as a model. "I wasn't good at being objectified. I was always a very behind-the scenes person," she said. Which is why she later transitioned to designing and styling.
She Was Adopted
"The couple adopted her as a baby and sibling to elder brother Randal and sister Jan. She frequently credited her mother and father for instilling her with a strong work ethic," the Daily Mail explained.
