The second season of Telemundo's "La Voz Kids" began with a number of great performances from the kids. Unfortunately, many of the participants were not chosen for the program.
This season, the show features three superstar coaches. Prince Royce and Roberto Tapia are returning after the first season while Spanish singer Natalia Jimenez is joining them for the first time.
The first show, which featured the blind auditions, resulted in the selection of eight children from California, Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada and Puerto Rico. These eight will now be coached by one of the three superstars.
Prince Royce obtained three children for his team. Among them were Yoandri Cabrera, a 14-year-old from Miami, Fla. The boy is a big fan of pop music and finds his inspiration from the music idols of past generations.
His second choice was Sarah Silva, a 10-year-old from Banning, Calif. The girl said that she loves romantic, regional Mexican songs, and has had great support from her grandfather.
His third selection was Amanda Mena from Lynn, Mass. The 11-year-old girl said that she loved to sing pop music and learned to sing from her parents.
Meanwhile, Roberto Tabia also picked up three voices. Erick Dominguez, 14-years-old from Richmond, Calif. was his first selection. The singer performs regional Mexican music and has concentrated on music from an early age.
Jacob Anderson was one of the biggest surprise picks. The 11-year-old from Las Vegas, Nev. is a big fan of pop and even though Tapia does not specialize in that type of music, he was the only coach to turn around.
His third candidate was Genesis Paz from Perris, Calif. The 10-year-old is a big fan of regional Mexican music and was one of the two performers on day one to have all three coaches fighting for her.
Natalia Jimenez picked up two female voices on her team. The first was Yanelis Rivera from Lares, Puerto Rico. The 13-year-old was the first contestant to perform last night. The singer wants to dedicate herself to pop music.
The second singer that Jimenez picked was Patricia Rosario. The 14-year-old from Yabucoa, Puerto Rico took a huge risk by performing one of Jimenez's hits. Although Tapia attempted to fight for her, Rosario already knew who she wanted.
The eight singers selected came out of hundreds of kids who attended local casting calls. From there, only 118 kids were selected to go to Universal Studios, Orlando to compete in the blind auditions. During the blind auditions each contestant had 90 seconds to impress the coaches with their vocal skills.
The "La Voz Kids" coaches will continue their search during Sunday's blind auditions, when a new group of young voices will fight to win the competition.
Last year Paola Guanche won the competition and since then has went on to perform at a number of venues including a number of NBA and NFL games.
