The President of the United States, Barack Obama, showed on Wednesday that he has a finely tuned taste regarding female clothing.
During his recent trip to New York City, where he would head various acts for the Democratic Party to raise funds, the President took the opportunity to congratulate Gap for recently raising the salaries of its employees above the current minimum wage in the U.S.
According to Reuters, President Obama visited one of Gap's stores in New York, and bought some clothes for his wife and two daughters.
The President has fought in recent months to get a raise in the minimum wage across the country, a raise which would be set at $10.10 dollars per hour, in comparison with the current $7.25 wage in the United States. His visit to one of the country's largest clothing stores, which recently raised the wages of its employees, has a special symbolic importance.
"It's not only good for them and their families, it's also good for the economy in general," the President told journalists as he left the Gap store, according to an article published by USA Today.
Helped by a surprised store employee, President Obama chose some gifts for his family, especially some sweaters he chose with care.
Despite the store's employee, later identified as Susan Panariello, telling the President to choose a V- neck sweater, the President chose a more conservative one with a round neck for his daughters, saying that "I'm worried it might slide off".
In total, President Obama bought a grey and white stripes jersey for one of his daughters and a colorful blouse for the other, and for his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama, he chose a blue jacket.
"I think the ladies will be impressed with my fashion sense," the President joked.
