In 2012, the discovery of a man's severed head close to the emblematic Hollywood sign generated a huge mobilization from Los Angeles authorities in what became one of the most mysterious crimes in the region in recent years.
Two years later, Gabriel Campos Martínez, a 38-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, March 9 in San Antonio, Texas for his alleged connection to the mysterious head found by two women walking their dogs in Griffith Park.
According to CNN, Campos was accused on Monday, March 10 for the death and dismembering of Hervey Medellín, a 66-year-old man, with whom he had shared an apartment for close to six months.
According to statements from the district prosecutor of Los Angeles County Bobby García, quoted by CNN, a forensic doctor said that Medellín died after being asphyxiated on December 27, 2011.
Authorities have not yet revealed the motive behind the homicide, however, they said that Campos has been charged with homicide and is currently under arrest after his bail was set at $1 million dollars and is awaiting an extradition audience.
Medellín's head and other parts of his body were found in early 2012 close to Griffith Park, near the Hollywood sign.
According to Los Angeles Times, the man's family said that Medellín was seen for the last time on December 26 when he was leaving his apartment in DeLongpre Ave.
The family told the newspaper that Medellín and Martínez were in a relationship when the former was murdered. The 66-year-old man was reported as missing on Jan. 9, 2012 and his head and other parts of his body were found eight days later by the two women walking their dogs.
