On March 9, Kate Upton got embroiled in a nasty scandal triggered by joke site Celeb Jihad, which posted "a photoshopped pic from an SI shoot with the headline, 'Kate Upton Naked Outtake From SI Swimsuit 2014,'" TMZ reported.
The celebrity news site also said that the photos were clearly fake. Despite this, Sports Illustrated still wants to pursue court action to teach the site a lesson.
However, it appears that the curvaceous model is not the only target of Celeb Jihad, International Business Times pointed out. We also learned that wholesome stars Ariana Grande and Emma Watson were also given the scandalous photoshop treatment. Miley Cyrus, whose scantily clad self is a regular feature in various magazines and online entertainment news sources, was also not spared.
The said "cut and paste" images of the 20-year-old beauty, for example, were posted in June last year, but has not stirred a response from the singer-actress. This is probably because the site has not been taken seriously. However, upon closer examination, the site's controversial statements may invite libel and defamation lawsuits.
"Ariana Grande's experience on the Nickelodeon casting couch, and TV show 'Victorious' prepared her well for taking naked pictures," one line in the Celeb Jihad piece on Ari's nude photos said.
Meanwhile, the Harry Potter star's "nude" pics involved a daytime stroll at a park and a leisurely floating session in a pool.
Miley's photos also involved a pool, although her hands cover her modesty. It appears that the images featured in the site were taken from the October 2013 issue of Rolling Stone magazine, which featured the twerkaholic artist on its cover. As the photos were already racy, the site apparently didn't need to wave its photoshopping wand on the images.
It's probable that Sports Illustrated's lawsuit may get the attention of other celebrities wrongly depicted in the nude by Celeb Jihad and also spur them to use legal measures to stop the scandalous photoshopping. But then again, they may also think that the joke site's attention-getting efforts aren't worth their time.
