'Inside Llewyn Davis' and 'The Book Thief' Among New DVD and Blu-Ray Releases

On March 11 a number of DVD and Blu-Rays will be released for the first time.

"Inside Llewyn Davis" - The first big release of the week is Joel and Ethan Coen's latest film. The movie was critically acclaimed and won the Grand Jury Prize at the Canes Film Festival. It also scored two Oscar nominations and two Golden Globes nominations. However, it failed to garner a big audience at the box office and only made $13 million. The film, which stars Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Justin Timberlake and Garrett Hedlund, tells the story of a young singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene in 1961. Given the Coen brothers popularity, the movie should find a bigger audience on home video.

"The Book Thief" - Once hailed as a potential Oscar contender, the film by Brian Perceval failed to be a critical darling or a box office hit. The movie made $21 million domestically and scored an Oscar nomination for Best Score. The film tells the story of young Liesel who finds solace by stealing books and sharing them with others. Under the stairs in her home, a Jewish refugee is being sheltered by her adoptive parents. The film will be released on both Blu-Ray and DVD.

"Homefront" - Open Road's latest film comes to home video on a double Blu-ray disc and DVD. The film opened in November but was not able to attract audiences. The film made $20 million and scored terrible reviews. The film tells the story of a former DEA agent who moves his family to a quiet town where he soon tangles with a local meth druglord. The film stars Jason Stateham, James Franco and Wynona Ryder.

"Samson and Delilah" - Cecil B. Demille's masterpiece will be released for the first time on Blu-ray. The film stars Hedy Lamarr and Victor Mature, and tells the story of Samson who rejects the love of the beautiful Philistine woman Delilah, who seeks vengeance that brings horrible consequences they both regret. The film was originally released in 1949 and won two Academy Awards.

"El Dorado" - The John Wayne classic will be released on Blu-ray for the first time. The 1966 classic directed by Howard Hawkes tells the story of Cole Thornton, a gunfighter for hire, who joins forces with an old friend, Sheriff J.P. Hara. Teaming up with an old Indian fighter and a gambler, they help a rancher and his family fight a rival rancher that is trying to steal their water.

"Giant" - The 1966 classic, which scored James Dean his Oscar nomination, and stars Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson, tells an epic story covering the life of a Texas cattle rancher and his family and associates. The movie, which won an Academy Award for Best Director, has never been released on Blu-ray and will be released by Warner Home Video.
