Mexican boxer Carlos Molina, currently super welter weight world champion, might not show for the fight programmed for Saturday in which he would face American challenger Jermall Charlo, since he is currently detained by an arrest order emitted by the state of Wisconsin.
The 30-year-old Mexican boxer was arrested on Tuesday, March 4 by Las Vegas police, since he was sought in Wisconsin for not registering as a sex offender, after an incident that happened in 2007 in the County of Outagamie, according to Fox News Latino.
The same source reported that after being detained, Molina was presented to a Las Vegas judge and attempted to pay a $10,000 dollars fine to obtain his freedom; however, it was denied after authorities found out the boxer was also sought by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to Las Vegas police spokesperson Laura Meltzer.
The super welter weight champion of the International Boxing Federation was supposed to defend his title on Saturday, March 8 at the MGM Grand Garden arena in Las Vegas from Charlo, just before the stellar fight between Mexican boxers Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez and Alfredo Angulo, according to Los Angeles Times.
Although for the moment the fight's organizers nor Molina's promoter, León Margules from Warriors Boxing Promotions, have provided further details on the arrest, on Friday, March 7 the fight is still in suspense and has not been cancelled officially, while the weigh-in ceremony is still programmed for this afternoon.
Last September 14, 2013 the Mexican boxer won the super welter weight belt after beating American boxer Ishe Smith.
