The mayor of New York City and the governor of the state of New York clashed once more on Tuesday, March 4 in Albany when thousands of people took to the streets, some to support Governor Cuomo, who in last January presented a $1.5 billion dollar budget for Pre-K, a school program to support children younger than 6 years of age, while other supported Mayor de Blasio, who disagrees with the measure.

The main issues for the Mayor of New York City relate to the way in which Pre-K must be financed. While Cuomo tries to get the state to take on the expenses, de Blasio has proposed the imposition of a tax to people with an income larger than $500,000 in the city.

According to Reuters during a meeting which took place on Tuesday in Albany, Governor Cuomo criticized the posture of Mayor de Blasio regarding the charter schools, schools which are financed privately and which de Blasio has said received preferential treatment during the administration of former Mayor Bloomberg.

These types of schools only provide services to 5 percent of New York's students, however, yesterday parents, students and teachers from these schools accompanied Governor Cuomo, who has destined $300 million dolalrs in the next years to finance preschool programs in the state, according to Reuters.

According to The New York Times, Mayor de Blasio recently agreed to reduce the growth of schools in New York, and last week announced the blocking of permits granted by former Mayor Bloomberg so that three of these schools can use the facilities of public schools.

Cuomo and de Blasio, both of them democrats, are two of the most important public figures in New York and both have strong public support. Despite that recently they have clashed over their differences in the subject of education, both politicians have said that this is a fundamental matter in their respective administrations.
