The last time famous father-and-son team Will and Jaden Smith teamed up for a movie, one of them earned an Academy Award nomination for "The Pursuit of Happyness." This time around, the pair won big --- but for the annual Golden Raspberry Awards for worst film last Saturday Night.
Jayden Smith, 15, took home the worst actor prize, while his father took worst-supporting actor for their performances in "After Earth." Their "winnings" did not end there --- they also hauled home the award for worst screen combo.
The Independent reported that John Wilson, founder of the Razzies, told BBC, "It's an old Hollywood traditional that somebody who is a star tries to make members of their family a star, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't."
Despite all the awards the Smith duo took home, it was "Movie 43" that took home the biggest "prize" of the night. Having an all-star cast did not keep the movie from being named the worst picture of the year.
A big surprise probably came for Adam Sandler, who, according to Mirror, was no stranger to the awards show and has been up for 20 Razzies over the course of his career. He went home empty-handed despite being nominated for seven awards for "Grown Ups 2."
Not everyone buys in to Johnny Depp's charms, as "The Lone Ranger" won the award for worst remake or sequel. There may be hope for the film though. According to Entertainment Weekly, Depp's film is also up for an Oscar for best make-up.
