At least five people younger than 30 have died after drinking large amounts of alcoholic beverages due to an online game that has gone viral and that keeps medical authorities of the United States and other countries around the world on alert.

The lethal game, known as "Neknominate", which is believed to have started in Australia, consists in young users of social networks filming themselves as they drink large amounts of alcohol, they then "nominate" other friends to "break their record", reported recently CNN.

The videos of young people drinking alcohol as a result of this game have flooded Facebook and YouTube, which is why the medical authorities of various countries around the world have warned young people about the risks of consuming large quantities of alcohol in short periods of time.

Sarah Jarvis, medical counselor for the British altruistic organization "Drinkware", working to avoid alcohol consumption abuse, told CNN that "This is a lethal game. The point of alcohol is that it affects your capacity to recognize you are in danger, and it completely affects your capacity to react to danger, so we have a double problem."

What makes this game doubly dangerous, which has become very popular in recent months, is that besides young people drinking large amounts of alcohol, the game's rules make people drink dangerous mixtures of alcohol with fish, insects, motor oil, dog food and a man even drank a mixture of alcohol and a dead mouse.

This is one of the "games" related to alcoholic beverages that have become real risks to public health, especially among the young people of various countries.

According to British newspaper The Telegraph, deaths of accidental alcoholic intoxication in England and Wales have shot up over 200% in the last 10 years and it's expected to keep rising due to games like "Neknominate".
