Mexican actress Maite Perroni and actor Daniel Arenas have started filming their new TV project, "La Gata", a Nathalie Lartilleux production, a remake of the original Venezuelan telenovela "La Gata" from 1968.

According to People en Español, the new telenovela by Televisa network began filming this week and it has already caught some attention since the first scenes of the awaited production were filmed in the garbage dump in Bordo de Xochiaca, in Chalco, in the state of Mexico.

Among garbage and surrounded by extreme poverty, the production team of "La Gata" decided to use this location to recreate and show "real and credible" scenes of the marginality situation in which hundreds of Mexicans live.

"This is a story of work, of self-improvement. If you are going to tell a story you have to know what your character is feeling and it is also the reality of our country," said Maite Perroni to the TV show "Televisa Espectáculos", according to Univisión.

The cast of Nathalie Lartilleux' new telenovela is comprised, besides Maite Perroni and Daniel Arenas, by a group of first-class actors like Laura Zapata, Manuel Ojeda, Leticia Perdigón and Erika Buenfil.

The story of the remake of "La Gata" tells the story of a humble and very lovely young woman who her friends and family call "La Gatita Esmeralda", who the character played by Daniel Arenas falls in love with.

Throughout the story, the difficult life conditions many Mexicans have to go through will be pictured with the help of the citizens of Bordo de Xochiaca themselves, who will participate in the production.

Televisa's new telenovela will started being broadcast on May and it's expected to be one of the biggest summer hits on Mexican television.
