Ricky Martin will once more sing a song for the FIFA World Cup, almost 17 years after singing "La Copa de la Vida" for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.
FIFA's website officially announced that American musician Elijah King has been chosen as the winner of the international contest SuperSong 2014, which selected the song for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The song "Vida", written by King, will be sung by renowned Latino artist Ricky Martin, in what will be the second time the Boricua singer is a part of the World Cup album, after he lent his voice for the official anthem of the 1998 World Cup, "La Copa de la Vida", a song that launched Martin's career around the world.
It's worth noting that Elijah King's "Vida" is not the official theme for the 2014 FIFA World Cup; international artists Jennifer López, Cláudia Leitte and Pitbull are in charge of singing "We Are One", song that will head the album for the World Cup and which will be played at the opening ceremony on June 12, in São Paulo.
However, the song that Ricky Martin will sing will be included in the official album of the sports event which will be published by RCA in March, according to Billboard magazine.
According to the same source, the bilingual English and Spanish song, "Vida" by Elijah King, a song filled with tropical and pop rhythms, will be produced by Salaam Remi, known for his work with artists like The Fugees, Amy Winehouse and Nas.
The SuperSong international contest invited musicians and soccer lovers to participate with original song proposals for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The first place would see their song recorded by Ricky Martin and an internationally-renowned producer, and included a double pass to watch the final at the Maracaná stadium in Río de Janeiro.
