The Metropolitan Opera announced it 2014-15 season, which featured a diverse repertoire.
This upcoming season will also continue the Met's Peabody award-winning Live in HD series. The series will present 10 performances in movie theaters around the world.
The series will open on Oct. 11 with the return Verdi's "Macbeth" starring Anna Netrebko as Lady Macbeth. Zeljko Lucic will sing his acclaimed Macbeth and Joseph Calleja and Rene Pape will round out the cast. Fabio Luisi will conduct the work.
The following Live in HD will be held Oct. 18 with Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro" starring Ildar Abdrazakov, Peter Mattei, Marlis Petersen, Isabel Leonard and Marina Poplavskaya with James Levine conducting..
Bizet's "Carmen" will return to the silver screen on Nov. 1 with Georgian Mezzo Anita Rachvelishvili in title role and Aleksandrs Antonenko as Don Jose. Anita Hartig will sing the role of Michaela and Ildar Abdrazakov will sing Escamillo. Spanish conductor Pablo Heras-Casado conducts.
Tom Morris' new production of "The Death of Klinghoffer" will be seen in HD on Nov. 15. Paolo Szot and Michaela Martens star in the production conducted by David Robertson.
James Levine will also conduct the Dec.13 HD transmission of Wagner's "Der Meistersinger von Nurnberg." Johan Botha, John Reuter, and Annette Dasch star in Otto Schenk's legendary production.
On Jan. 17 Lehar's "The Merry Widow" will star Renee Fleming, and Nathan Gunn in the lead roles with Sir Andrew Davis conducting.
Offenbach's "Les Contes d'Hoffman" returns to the silver screen on Jan. 31 with Vittorio Grigolo in the title role and Hibla Gerzmava as the three heroines. Kate Lindsey and Thomas Hampson will round out the cast which will be conducted by Yves Abel.
On Feb. 14 Netrebko returns to the HD series in title role to Tchaikovsky's "Iolanta." She brings her acclaimed interpretation to movie theaters alongside Piotr Beczala and Alexey Markov. On the same afternoon Bartok's "Duke Bluebeard's Castle" will be performed with Nadja Michael and Mikhail Petrenko. Valery Gergiev will conduct the double bill.
Joyce Didonato and Juan Diego Florez will reunite for their fourth HD in Rossini's "La Donna del Lago." The opera will be performed on March 14 with Michele Mariotti conducting Pablo Curran's acclaimed production.
The final HD will be Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana" and Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci" on April 25. The popular double bill will be performed by Marcelo Alvarez in the daunting roles of Canio and Turiddu. Patricia Racette will perform "Pagliacci" and Eva Maria Westbroek will sing "Cavalleria Rusticana." Fabio Luisi will conduct David McVicar's new production.
