Pharrell Williams will sing at the Academy Awards.

Deadline is reporting that Williams will sing the theme song to "Despicable Me 2." The song, "Happy," is one of the five nominees for Best Song and Williams is nominated for it.

Williams is the first of four singers who are expected to perform at the Academy Awards.

The other nominees who could potentially perform include U2 for "Ordinary Love" from "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom," Demi Lovato for "Let It Go" from "Frozen" and Karen O for "The Moon Song" from "Her."

The fifth nominee, producer and songwriter Bruce Broughton, was eliminated from the race for the song "Alone Yet Not Alone" for a film of the same title.

Williams co-wrote and produced last year's hit from Robin Thicke, "Blurred Lines," and co-wrote and sang Daft Punk's "Get Lucky." He won seven Grammys last weekend including two for Producer of the Year.

The Academy Awards are known for inviting artists of the nominated songs to perform. Last year Adele performed her Oscar-winning song "Skyfall." Other performers have included Amy Adams, Glen Hansard, Marketa Irglova, and Beyonce. Jennifer Hudson, Andrea Bocelli, Enya, Randy Newman, Celine Dion, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, and Dolly Parton have also performed.

The Academy Awards will be held on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre. Among the Best Picture nominees are "12 Years a Slave," "American Hustle," "Dallas Buyers Club," "Gravity," "The Wolf of Wall Street," "Captain Phillips," "Philomena," "Nebraska," and "Gravity."
