Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill will reunite for a new film entitled "The Ballad of Richard Jewell."
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fox is acquiring the rights to the film, which tells the true story of Richard Jewell, the security guard who went from hero to suspect at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
The film will be based on a Vanity Fair article entitled "The Ballad of Richard Jewell" written by Marie Brenner.
THR is reporting that DiCaprio will produce the adaptation with his partner Jennifer Davisson Killoran for Appian Way. Hill will also produce with Kevin Misher, who initially optioned the material.
The original article recounts how "Jewell was working as a security guard at the '96 Summer Games when he discovered a backpack containing pipe bombs, subsequently sounding the alarm and helping to clear the area. However, the bomb did detonate, killing one person and injuring dozens of others.
"Initially hailed as a hero, Jewell was soon the prime suspect, as the FBI searched his home twice. A media frenzy painted him as an overweight failed cop and mama's boy, and he became the punchline for late-night jokes."
The project currently has no writer or director attached but news is sure to come at a later time. At the moment Hill is slated to play the lead role while DiCaprio is slated to play Jewell's attorney.
Both Hill and DiCaprio were last seen in "The Wolf of Wall Street." Both actors were nominated for the Academy Award for their turns in the film. The movie also garnered a Best Picture nomination and became a huge box office success grossing over $103 million domestically and $226 million worldwide.
