50 Doses of Heroin Found in Philip Seymour Hoffman's New York Apartment

The detectives in charge of investigating the death of renowned actor Philip Seymour Hoffman have confirmed they found 50 bags filled with heroin inside his apartment. 

According to CNN, medical authorities of the city of New York revealed that various bags, marked as "Ace of hearts," were found in the actor's apartment, along with 50 bags marked "Ace of spades."

While neither medical or police authorities have officially confirmed that the bags contain heroin, suspicions are high regarding the contents of the bags since over 20 recently-used syringes were found in the apartment.

According to The Washington Post, Philip Seymour Hoffman acknowledged many times that he suffered from a strong drug addiction for many years. After 23 years of abstinence, the 46-year-old actor admitted in recent interviews that he had been using again, and had developed an addiction to heroin that caused him to check himself into a rehab center last year.

For the moment, the agents in charge of the investigation are trying to determine the origin of the substances that apparently ended the actor's life.

Hoffman, winner of an Academy Award in 2005 for his role in the film "Capote," was found dead on Sunday, Feb. 2 in his New York City apartment.

Hoffman's body was found on his bathroom floor with a syringe in his left arm, reported Reuters.

Various drugs with medical prescriptions were also found in the actor's apartment.
