Zac Efron has confirmed that he auditioned for the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII."

While promoting his latest film "That Awkward Moment," the actor told MTV News that he had met with the film's producers and that he would love to do the film. He said, "Yeah, I just went and met with them, so I don't know, it would be cool. I love [the Star Wars movies], I love them, but...who knows?"

The news comes a few months after Latino Review reported that Efron had auditioned for a role in the film. "As for what role Efron would be playing, we don't know. He could be a Solo kid," reported Latino Review.

Efron could end up with a role in the film, especially after having been discovered by Disney on "High School Musical." However, no decision on casting has been made and based on all the "Batman vs. Superman" news Disney will most likely wait to get all the publicity.

Efron has recently shed his teenage image and moved into more mature roles. He recently starred in "The Lucky One," "At Any Price" and the Golden Globe nominated film "The Paperboy." He also starred in "Parkland" with Paul Giamatti, Jackie Earl Haley, and Marcia Gay Harden. He is also set to appear in the SXSW Film Festival selection "Neighbors" with Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne.

"Star Wars: Episode VII" will be directed by J.J Abrams and produced Kathleen Kennedy. Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams wrote the script based on drafts by Michael Arndt.

"Star Wars: Episode VII" is set for release on Dec. 18, 2015 with production slated to begin later this year.
