"Transformers 4: Age of Extinction" is not a reboot.
According to producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, the latest Michael Bay flick will not restart the franchise but will pick up years after the third installment.
"It's definitely not a reboot. It's an interesting question about what you should call it," said Di Bonaventura, according to Screen Crush. "It's not a reboot, but a continuation, yet you're continuing with a new cast and group of characters. It's a very different dynamic than I've seen in a movie, I'm very curious. I guess 'Star Wars' did that a little bit."
The original "Star Wars" movies were released in 1977, 1980 and 1983. Director George Lucas then opted for telling the story about the events that preceded the original movies and released his set of prequels in 1999, 2002 and 2005. Those movies featured a different set of actors with only a few actors (Frank Oz and Ian McDiarmid) from the original films appearing in the prequels.
The new "Transformer" movie stars Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor and will acknowledge the destruction of Chicago from the third film. The first two movies starred Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. However, Fox made comments about director Bay that ended up terminating her involvement with the franchise. Fox was then replaced by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
A trailer for "Transformers" will be unveiled at the Super Bowl. The film is expected to hit theaters on June 27, 2014.
