Sacha Baron Cohen is in early talks to join Disney's upcoming "Alice in Wonderland" sequel, "Through the Looking Glass."
IGN reports that Baron Cohen will play the villain in the new film. However, details behind the character are unknown.
The new sequel is slated to star Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska, both of which will reprise their roles from "Alice In Wonderland." Meanwhile, "The Muppets" director James Bobin will helm the film.
Baron Cohen is currently developing the Louis Leterrier-directed "Grimsby," which will shoot in early summer. He is also developing "The Lesbian" at Paramount, which he will star in and produce.
Baron Cohen was last seen in "Les Miserables" and in "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," in which he worked with Depp. He was also seen in "Hugo" and "The Dictator."
"Alice in Wonderland" was released in 2010 and was directed by Tim Burton. The film became a huge box office hit and grossed over $300 million at the domestic box office and $1 billion worldwide. It later went on to get nominated for three Academy Awards of which it won two for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design.
Disney is currently developing live-action films based on its classic animated films. The studio will release "Maleficent," starring Angelina Jolie, this year and in 2016 is slated to release "Cinderella" with Cate Blanchett.
Disney currently has plot details for "Through the Looking Glass" underwraps. The film is slated to open on May 27, 2016.
