On Jan. 16, the Academy Award Nominations will be announced by Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaac and Chris Hemsworth.
The nominations will be announced at 5:30 a.m. PST (8:30 a.m. EST). Among the films expected to get nominated for Best Picture are "12 Years a Slave," "Captain Phillips" "Inside Llewyn Davis," "Gravity" and "American Hustle." "Saving Mr. Banks," "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "Nebraska" are also potential Best Picture Nominees while "Blu Jasmine" "Rush" and "Philomena" are long shots for a nomination in the top category.
Among the actors that are expected to get nominated are Chiwetel Ejiofor ("12 Years a Slave"), Leonardo DiCaprio ("The Wolf of Wall Street"), Jennifer Lawrence ("American"), Michael Fassbender ("12 Years a Slave"), Julia Robert ("August: Osage County"), and Jared Leto ("Dallas Buyers Club").
The nominations come a few days after the Golden Globes awards were presented. The nomination also comes on the same day as the Critics Choice awards, an organization that many thought had some influence on Oscar nominations. It also marks the second time in two years when the Academy announced the nominations on the second week of January. Last year the Academy decided to announce the nominations before the Directors Guild Award nominations and the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The announcement will be live streamed online and transmitted on NBC on the "Today" show and on ABC's "Good Morning America." Those on Twitter can follow the Twitter handle #OscarNoms while Facebook users can visit the Academy's official Facebook page. The Academy has also released an official Oscar app on Google Play, the Apple App Store, and the Amazon App Store. The nominations will be given out at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater and the awards will presented on March 2 at the Dolby Theater.
