Another one bites the dust - a Hollywood marriage, that is.
Days ago, TMZ revealed that actress Hilary Duff and former NHL star Mike Comrie have announced their separation on January 10. "It's pretty obvious divorce is just a matter of time," the entertainment news source predicted.
Fans of the former Disney star may find this news a downer. It's not hard to see why - they've been a very much loved up couple since they got engaged and eventually married each other in August 2010. The arrival of their son, 22-month-old Luca, in March 2012 added a lining of happiness to the already happy picture the couple was giving to the world. With that, a potential divorce should be the last thing on everyone's minds, including the pair concerned.
Apparently, that was also among their last considerations. An insider told Us Weekly that Hilary and Mike "tried counseling for 18 months." Unfortunately, it didn't seem to work for the former lovers.
How did things boil down to this?
According to the source, one cause was the athlete's lack of effort. "She felt he didn't put enough effort into the relationship," the mole said. Even with the counseling, the 33-year-old ex-hockey player reportedly "wasn't doing any of the things they'd worked on."
The Daily Mail noted that Mike allegedly "changed" after he sustained a career-ending hip injury back in 2012. Since then, "nothing could inspire him." As how the New York Daily News puts it, "his ambition seemed to end with his career."
This is quite understandable - it can be pretty hard to accept retirement when you're still 31, young, and ambitious. Perhaps he's still going through a depressive state, Hilary? Or maybe he just needed help launching an alternative career that would put his old self back on track?
Perhaps they truly have explored all avenues and found a dead end on each. Another source did say that the couple is "better as friends" as "the spark was no longer there."
Let's see what happens in the comng weeks. Stay posted, Latinos Post readers!
