Paul Greengrass will reunite with Columbia Pictures for an adaptation of the upcoming book by David Ignatius entitled "The Director."
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Greengrass will also reunite with his "Captain Phillips" team producer Scott Rudin. Meanwhile, Greegrass is in negotiations to direct and write the adaptation.
The deal comes after Michael De Luca was named the President of Sony; Deluca is also a producer of "Captain Phillips."
The film will tell the story of a teen who walks into the American consulate in Hamburg and claims the CIA has been hacked. The new director of the agency, on the job for less than a week, is forced to team up with the CIA's young, in-house geek for a worldwide mole hunt filled with double-crosses.
The film is expected to be Greengrass' next film. Greengrass has directed "United 93" for which he was nominated for the Academy Award. He also directed "Bloody Sunday," "Green Zone," "The Bourne Supremacy," and "The Bourne Ultimatum." Greengrass is expected to get an Academy Award nomination for "Captain Phillips" for Best Director. The movie is also slated to get a Best Picture nomination as well as Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor nominations.
Meanwhile, Rudin has produced a number of acclaimed films including "Revolutionary Road," "No Country for Old Men," "The Social Network," "There Will Be Blood," "Moneyball," "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close," "It's Complicated," and "The Hours."
De Luca has been in charge of producing "American History X," "Butter," "The Sitter," "21," "Ghost Rider," and "Brothers."
The book "The Director" is expected to be published in June 2014.
