Nadya Suleman, the L.A. woman that jumped to fame after giving birth to octuplets in 2009, has been accused of fraud in reports of the welfare she's been given to take care of the children.

According to Reuters, Suleman, better known in the media as "Octomom," was notified last Jan. 6 and received an order to present herself to a Los Angeles county judge Jan. 17.

In the past, Suleman has gained notority because she posed semi-nude for various magazines and filmed adult movies, and L.A. authorities decided to carry out an investigation that revealed that the mother of 14 didn't report her income of almost $30,000 that she received as royalties for the videos, according to the penal complaint filed by the L.A. county district attorney.

In 2009, Nadya Suleman, now 38 years old, became the second woman to have octuplets in the U.S. after undergoing an in-vitro artificial insemination program, according to Los Angeles Times.

The complaint indicates that Suleman illegally received $6,667 as a part of the Cal Works financial assistance program, and $9,814 from the Cal Fresh food assistance program in the first six months of 2013.

Prosecutors have accused "Octomom" of falsely reporting her income to receive welfare and two charges of perjury for false request of welfare, for which she might be sentenced to five years and eight months in prison.

A single mother, Suleman was formally accused on Jan. 6. Her bail was set at $25,000, according the ABC.
