Multiple reports have said that actor Michael Pena has been approached with a role in Marvel Studios's much-anticipated superhero movie "Ant-Man".
According to a report by The Hollywoord Reporter, Marvel was keen to look and hire an actor who exudes a tough Latino vibe and is not afraid to be engaged in scenes that require physical action. It was not disclosed though what role Pena will play in the Marvel film.
However, according to blog This is Infamous, Pena will be playing a villain to Douglas' Pym. The blog said Pena's character is named "Castillo," who is inspired from Latin American dictator Fidel Castro.
In an actor profile drawn by The Wrap, it describes Pena's acting career as full of dramatic and comedic roles. Pena has played roles in movies such as "American Hustle", "Crash", "World Trade Center", "End of Watch", "Observe and Report", and "30 Minutes or Less."
Earlier reports have named Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas as stars of the Marvel Comics-based movie. Rudd and Douglas will play Hank Pym and Scott Lang respectively, according to a previous report by The Hollywood Reporter. Pym and Lang uses a technology that allows them to shrink their bodies into the size of insects and gain control of ants.
The film will be directed by Edgar Wright. The Wrap said the movie is scheduled to begin production in April this year, and is set for a July 31, 2015 release. The site notes that Wright said the film will be more comedic than the usual Marvel movie.
In a separate report, The Hollywood Reporter said that Douglas could portray a villain version of Pym, and that Wright will have no worries on recreating "Ant-Man" for the big screen as the characters do not have a loyal fan base as compared to other Marvel superheroes.
