He's never been known to downplay his talents and he's never shy about trumpeting his "genius."
So it's not surprising to hear reports emerging that the 'Yeezus' artist is "biting his tongue while privately fuming" about being outsmarted by another artist in terms of album concept, the Daily Mail said.
Based on the revelation of an insider, as reported by RadarOnline, it appears that Kanye thought of doing a visual album even before Jay Z's missus Beyoncé released her own visual album on December 13 in a surprise move.
What's surprising about this bit of news is that we never heard a verbal lashing from the hot-tempered rapper after Queen Bey's album was released.
"Kanye is feeling really defeated over Beyonce's album doing so well. He wanted to do a visual album for his [My Beautiful] Dark Twisted Fantasy album, but everyone around him convinced him it wouldn't work," the source confessed. "That's why he ended up doing one long movie to go with it [the 35-minute short film Runaway]."
So, what's keeping him from speaking his mind as usual?
"He's kind of annoyed, but he doesn't want to talk about how he came up with the idea first because of how he got slammed for saying he invented leather jogging pants a few years ago. Plus, he needs to stay on good terms with Jay Z," the insider explained to RadarOnline.
The hip-hop star sure knows how to stay on the good side of his long-time collaborators, even if it means swallowing his pride.
It was good that Kanye kept mum on Beyoncé's surprise move. Her decision to release an album with all songs accompanied by a short film appeared to be a step up from an earlier album effort. In 2007, B released her 'B'Day Anthology Video Album', where each song is accompanied by a music video. Her latest musical offering, 'Beyoncé', was simply an improvement of this concept - which means it's not entirely new and may be something that Bey had already started on years ago.
