Mexican pop star Paulina Rubio is suing Telemundo.
The pop star alleged that the NBC Universal subsidiary had opted out of a $1.325 million deal for her to reprise her role as judge/ coach on the second season of the highly rated music competition show "La Voz Kids."
The lawsuit said, "Telemundo apparently changed its mind after making a deal when presented with the opportunity to hire a far less expensive talent to replace Paulina."
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the singer said that Telemundo used her participation in "The X Factor" as a reason to terminate her contract for "La Voz Kids."
The singer had reportedly entered negotiations once the first season of the show finished. According to the complaint, her attorney and talent agent "agreed orally and in email correspondence with Telemundo that the material terms for Paulina to appear on the Second Season would be the same as in the written contract for the First Season apart from Paulina's compensation."
The compensation of $1.325 million was also allegedly agreed upon in email on Dec. 4. And Rubio's transactional attorney Joe Carlone told Telemundo, "We are closed."
However, according to Carlone, Telemundo still wanted written confirmation that Rubio would be available to film a second season. Carlone wrote in the lawsuit, "Rather than do so in good faith, Telemundo made only a perfunctory effort to clear a full three and a half week period in May and June and did not respond to Fremantle's request in response to same that Telemundo identify the specific dates that Telemundo wanted to clear. Defendants' concern about clearing dates was, at best, a pretext. Defendants did not act reasonably or in good faith to obtain the written confirmation that they purportedly required."
According to the Carlone, Rubio would be available to shoot the new season of "La Voz Kids" as it did not interrupt her schedule with "The X Factor."
"La Voz Kids" is currently in the audition process and is expected to begin airing in the spring.
