"Gravity" has been named the Best Film of the year by the Denver Film Critics association.
The film also took home honors for Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron, Best Sci-Fi/Horror Film and Best Score for Steven Price.
The co-director of the DFCS Christian Toto said in a press release, "Even critics who thought other films were more deserving of Best Picture status saw how 'Gravity' will influence a generation of filmmakers on how to fuse storytelling with special effects,"
Meanwhile, "Dallas Buyers Club" earned two key actors' awards for Matthew McConaughey (Best Actor) and Jared Leto (Best Supporting Actor). The awards come a day after both won the Golden Globes.
Cate Blanchett also continued her front-runner position for Best Actress, winning for her acclaimed role in "Blue Jasmine." Jennifer Lawrence also picked up another key award for her turn in "American Hustle." She won the Best Supporting Actress award beating out competitor Lupita Nyong'o.
Other awards included Best Documentary for "The Act of Killing" and Best Foreign Film for "The Grandmaster."
The Best song prize went to "Frozen" for the song "Let It Go." The film also took home the Best Animated film.
Meanwhile, the Best Adapteed Screenplay award went to "The Wolf of Wall Street" while David O. Russell won the Best Original Screenplay award for his work on "American Hustle."
This year the group added two new categories: Best Comedy and Best Sci-Fi/Horror Film. The Best Comedy award went to "This is the End," which has been overlooked throughout the awards season.
The Denver Film Critics Society includes members from across Colorado working for print, radio and web outlets. Final voting was conducted from Jan. 9-12, 2014.
