Harvey Weinstein has released the first U.S. trailer to "The Railway Man."

The new film, which stars Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival where it was one of the most anticipated films of the festival. The movie tells the story of a victim from World War II's "Death Railway," which sets him on a path to find those responsible for his torture.

The film was once thought of as an Oscar contender but the Weinstein Company failed to release it in the 2013 calendar year. Additionally, it premiered to a mixed reception and as a result it is unlikely the movie will play for the 2014 Oscars. The Hollywood Reporter's David Rooney wrote, "A former P.O.W.'s extraordinary story gets a plodding retelling in Jonathan Teplitzky's poorly-structured drama."

However, Peter Debruge from Variety gave the film a good review and stated, "Lomax found heroism in compassion, and that attitude is what audiences are bound to connect with so deeply here, even if such an outcome proves almost anti-dramatic onscreen."

Firth is best known for his work in "The King's Speech." He has also been seen in "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," "Mama Mia," "A Single Man," "Love Actually" and "Girl with a Pearl Earring."

Kidman was recently seen in "Stoker," and "The Paperboy." She has also been seen in "Rabbit Hole," "Moulin Rouge" and "Fur." She will next be seen in "Grace of Monaco," "Paddington" and "The Family Fang."

"The Railway Man" was directed by Jonathon Teplitzky and also stars Jeremy Irvine, Stellan Skarsgard, Hiroyuki Sanada and Sam Reid. The movie was already released in the U.K. but no date has been set for the U.S. However, with the new trailer released, the Weinstein Company is most likely preparing to release the movie in the spring.
