Jeffrey Dean Morgan has joined the new film by Jonas Cuaron, "Desierto."
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Morgan will play the villain in the new film, which will also star Gael Garcia Bernal ("The Motorcycle Duiaries"). The thriller wil be directed by Cuaron, who co-wrote the awards contender "Gravity" with his father Alfonso Cuaron ("Children of Men").
The new film will reportedly center on a group of illegal immigrants, one of which is played by Bernal, who try to cross the border but run afoul of a man (Morgan) who has taken up border patrol duties in his own racist hands.
Alfonso Cuaron, Carlos Cuaron ("Rudo y Cursi") and Alex Garcia ("Love in the Time of Cholera") will produce the movie, which will be shot in Baja, California in February.
Bernal is executive producing along with Lucas Akoskin and Santiago Garcia Galvan.
Morgan was most recently in Starz's original series "Magic City." He has also been seen in "Red Dawn," Watchmen," "The Losers," "The Possession," "The Resident," "Texas Killing Fields," and "Peace Love and Understanding." The actor is slated to star in the upcoming "Solace" with Colin Farrell and Abbie Cornish and "The Salvation" with Eva Green and Mads Mikkelsen. Morgan will also star in "The Rut" with Ray Liotta and "The Adventures of Beatle."
Warner Bros. will release the film, which does not have a release date as of yet. The studio is coming off a successful year that included "42" "The Great Gatsby," "Her" "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," and "Gravity."
