The Costume Designers Guild announced the nominations for Best Work in Costume Design.
The Guild divides the award into three categories: Period, Contemporary and Fantasy.
The nominees for contemporary dress were Suzy Benzinger for "Blue Jasmine," Casey Storm for "Her," Wendy Chuck for "Nebraska," Consolata Boyle for "Philomena" and Sarah Edwards for "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty."
In the period costume category Patricia Norris was nominated for her work in "12 Year a Slave" alongside Catherine Martin for "The Great Gatsby," Michael Wilkinson for "American Hustle," Kurt & Bart for "Dallas Buyers Club," and Dan Orlandi for "Saving Mr. Banks."
The Fantasy category surprisingly only contained three films. Ann Maskrey, Richard Taylor, and Bob Buck were nominated for "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" while Trish Summerville got shortlisted for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." Gary Jones and Michael Kutsche rounded out the category with a nomination for "Oz: The Great and Powerful."
The Guild is important for predicting who will end up winning the Academy Award for Best Costume Design. Previous winners have included Jacqueline Durran for "Anna Karenina," Jany Temime for "Skyfall" and Arianne Phillips for "W.E." Jenny Beavan has also won for "The King's Speech" and Colleen Atwood has also been nominated in the past ("Alice in Wonderland").
The 16th annual CDG awards will announced on Feb. 22 in a ceremony that will also honor writer/producer/director Judd Apatow as the guild's Distinguished Collaborator Award and designer April Ferry will receive an Honorary Career Achievement Award.
