"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" has crossed the $400 million mark.
The film took 42 days to get to the mark and became the fifth-fastest film to reach the sum. The movie currently stands at $400,088,390 and is now slated to surpass the original installment, which made $408 million.
The movie is also slated to become the highest grossing film of 2013; the current record holder is "Iron Man 3" with $409 million.
"Catching Fire" has also been bankable in the international front having already made $404 million. Meanwhile, "the Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," continues to slip away. The movie has only made $213 million in 21 days and could become the first Lord of the Rings movies to not gross over $300 million. The reason for the loss is most likely due to the lack of anticipation and because the first film was not received particularly well.
However, Disney's "Frozen" continues to be the surprise of the season having already made $277 million. The film is slated to make $300 million by the end of the weekend.
Paramount's "The Wolf of Wall Street" has also continued to disappoint as the film has only made $49 million. The movie will need Oscar nominations and perhaps Golden Globe wins to get audiences excited again. The film's bad word of mouth and crude material has dissuaded older audiences at the moment.
Oscar contender "American Hustle" continues to be bankable. The film has already made $75 million and is likely to make over $100 million by the end of its run.
