On Dec. 28, the Bayerische Staatsoper will present its new production of Verdi's "La Forza del Destino" on their Staatsoper.tv.
The production by Martin Kusej stars leading tenor Jonas Kaufmann and German soprano Anja Harteros. Ludovic Tezier, Nadia Krasteva, Vitalij Kowalijow, and Renato Girolami round out the cast.
The production concludes the Verdi Bicentennial celebration, which took place throughout 2013.
It also marks the highly anticipated role debut of Kaufmann as Alvaro, a role he previewed on his latest album entitled "Verdi." Kaufmann received rave reviews for his portrayal earlier this month when the production premiered. Critics called his portrayal "Radiant" and "intense."
The production also marks the third Verdi role Kaufmann has sung alongside Harteros. They were previously seen in "Il Trovatore" in July at the Bayerische Staatsoper and in "Don Carlo" in August at the Salzburg Festival.
The tenor is in high demand and currently has one of the most booked agendas in the world. He will next perform in a new production of Massenet's "Werther" at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The production will also be part of the Met's Live in HD series. Kaufmann will also make his Carnegie Hall Recital Debut and embark on a recital tour, which will include Schubert's famous "Winterreise." His season concludes in London at the Royal Opera House where he will make his role debut as Des Grieux in Puccini's "Manon Lescaut."
The new production of "La Forza del Destino" is the third live stream of the season and will give audiences all over the world a chance to see the sold out production.
