A silver screen adaptation of the John Green-authored bestselling novel "The Fault in Our Stars", which tells the story of a cancer patient, is in the can and is slated for a mid-year release in 2014. This gives fans of the book great reasons for celebrating the coming year.
However, with the recent backlash over the movie's marketing strategy, it appears the film could very well be known as "The Fault in Our Tagline."
Look at the film's poster - see anything faulty? No less than the movie's lead star did - with the "one sick love story" tagline, that is. What's more, she took to the media to let her opinion known, according to Entertainment Weekly.
"I had a really strong response to it. It's definitely not a tagline that I probably would have chosen by any means. But I think there's so many people who are so passionate about this book that there's nothing that will ever satisfy everyone. So I think it was just up to the discretion of the marketing mavens," said actress Shailene Woodley, who plays Hazel, a 16-year-old girl diagnosed with stage 4 thyroid cancer.
However, author Green took in the tagline in a different way and shared his thoughts on the controversial one liner on his blog. He made it clear that he did not write the line.
"I found [the tagline] dark and angry in the same way that Hazel is (at least at times) dark and angry in her humor," he wrote. "I like the tag line because it says, literally, the sick can also have love stories. Love and joy and romance are not just things reserved for the well."
Woodley, in response to Green's comments, said that while she agree with some of the points the novelist raised, the 22-year-old actress still thought that the tagline was something she herself would not have chosen.
"The Fault in Our Stars" will be shown in theaters on June 6 next year.
