People shopping in the Wal-Mart in Tewksburry, Massachusetts got a big surprise when Beyoncé showed up and gave everyone gift cards on Friday, December 20.
The day passed normally when the artist, who was buying some gifts, approached one of the cash registers and asked for permission to talk to shoppers.
"To everyone in the store right now, $50 dollars off your Christmas gifts are on me," the pop star said, in a moment captured on a video uploaded to YouTube.
Just after her words, those present reflected their joy with cheers and applause which resonated in the store. To end her brief message, she expressed her best wishes for everyone: "Merry, merry Christmas from Beyoncé."
A calculation published by The Huffington Post revealed that 750 $50 gift cards were handed out, so the total reached $37,500.
Sarah McKinney, Wal-Mart spokesperson, expressed her thanks for the noble gesture. "It was incredible, a real show. Everyone was excited when she came in, and what she did for our clients just before Christmas was great," she told Fox WHGP.
It's worth noting that on the same day, Beyoncé's new album arrived at stores after the controversy unleashed by the one-week exclusivity deal that Apple's music service, iTunes, had to sell the digital version of it, which was poorly-received by competitors like Amazon which refused to distribute physical copies of the album.
