Radamel Falcao has announced his allegiance to Cristiano Ronaldo in the Messi vs. Ronaldo debate.

The Colombian international recently stated that the two players were the best in the world, but he preferred Real Madrid's talisman to the Barcelona man.

"Messi and Cristiano are the two most important players in the world today but, for me, Ronaldo is the best," the Colombian said, according to Goal.com.

The article makes no mention of Falcao's reasons for picking one player over the other, but one might imagine the South American rivalry might have something to do with this—Messi's Argentina and Falcao's Colombia are among the top countries in all of South America.

Ronaldo's performance in 2013 certainly helps Falcao's claims. The Portuguese superstar led all goal-scorers in 2013 with 69 tallies.

"This year has been a good one," Ronaldo said, according to Goal.com, "but next year will be even better."

Ronaldo's goal output was impressive but it still fell short of Messi's 92 goals in 2012. However, the Argentinean failed to match the benchmark he made last year as he only scored 45 goals in 2012; he currently sits in third place on the list behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic (47 goals) and Ronaldo. Liverpool's Luis Suarez could actually push Messi to fourth place on the list as he still has two games left in 2013. Suarez has scored 42 goals this season and has been on a hot streak of late with 10 goals in his last four games; no other player has put up that kind of performance this season over that span.
